Vacation Ideas

Posted under Travel & Vacations 1 Comment

The next time we go on a “big” vacation, it will probably be to visit Drew’s dad in Flordia. But I wonder if we could make a few stops along the way. I’ve always wanted to visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina, as well as places like Historic Williamsburg in Virginia. Seems to be a good time to do it if we do indeed drive down there. I mean, what is a couple extra days tacked onto a week’s vacation, you know?

While I am not a beach person, per se, I think it would be cool. I’ve been to Cape Cod and beaches in New Hampshire, Maine, and Florida. It would be neat to see what other beaches look like since they really are so different.

Little Jack LaLane

Noah is totally facsinated by the excercize equipment at Sears. Every time we go there, even if it is just for something quick like a tractor part, he insists we go and try out the bikes, treadmills, and ellipticals. The kid has so much energy, I wonder what would happen if I just put him on the treadmill in our basement? Maybe he’d walk himself straight to a nap! That would be wonderful but I seriously doubt it would happen.

But I do love that he is so active. As much as it tires me out, I’d rather have him running around than watching TV all day or playing video games when he gets older.

Carsickness

Posted under Blather 4 Comments

I am not fond of long car rides. I never have, and I never will be. Two hours in the car is about my limit. I can’t read or do anything in the car, either because it makes me feel ill. I wonder if wearing a magnetic bracelet would help at all? We were considering driving to Florida at some point in the future, and I would have to figure out something to help me endure that drive.

Jacob has the same problem. He can’t read or do activity books in the car because she starts feeling queasy. He’s actually thrown up a couple times, poor guy. :-(

My Skin Is So Much Better!

Posted under Health No Comments

Ah, I am so relieved that just a couple days of pampering have helped my skin get back to normal and I didn’t have to go with any severe acne treatments to help restore it.

I really have to be careful with the drier weather (especially now that we have a wood stove). I don’t want my skin to get too dry, as it is prone to do. Last year my cheeks got so red that my mom almost dragged me to a dermatologist! Luckily I was able to get it under control. I guess that as a mom I just don’t always put myself first, and with some things I should.

Cool Old Videos

Posted under Celebs, Entertainment 1 Comment

Last week I was going through old VHS tapes and I found my bootleg copy of “Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story.” If you have never heard of it, it’s a short film about the tragic death of singer Karen Carpenter. But what makes it cool (and yes, slightly creepy), is that it’s done using Barbie dolls. After a while you barely notice that they are dolls — it’s unreal! Of course, Karen Carpenter died of an ipecac overdose (so tragic). I suppose back then there weren’t that many diet pills or diet supplements. Well, I guess diet supplements wouldn’t harm her anyway. They might have actually made her healthier, who knows?

If you are interested in checking out the movie, you can view it here!

Buttoning Up For Winter

Posted under Homemaking No Comments

Well, we did not get any snow last night, but my friend (who lives in the Berkshires) sent me a photo of his backyard this morning. He has a good inch to inch and a half of snow! That made me realize that we really should put our patio furniture covers on our table and chairs on the deck, if we’re not going to move them into the shed. According to The Farmer’s Almanac, it’s supposed to be a cold and snowy winter. I’d hate for our patio set to get ruined by the weather.

I am not sure if I want to bother moving our grill, though. Our propane tank is empty, but it’s such a hassle moving the thing around. I think we left it out there last year. I’m sure it will be OK.

I just can’t believe people in the area are already getting snow! It’s not even November!

Lunch out with the Munchkin

Posted under Blather No Comments

This morning we had an appointment to get new tires put on the car. So we figured that while they were doing that, instead of just one of us waiting around for over an hour, we’d all go out and run a couple errands. Since we still had time we thought of getting an early lunch. Unfortunately, our mall has a limited food court. I didn’t feel like Sbarro (too pricey) or the Chinese food or Cajun places (too questionable) or Subway (we’re having sandwiches for dinner) or Taco Bell (uh, the last time I ate there, my lunch acted like a colon cleanser).

So that left the Target Cafe. And you know, I have to admit that I kind of like it for a cheap, quick lunch. For $5 I got a bowl of chili, nachos with cheese and jalepenos, and a soda. Drew got the same thing and Noah got a $2 hot dog combo. Ours happens to be staffed by super friendly people and is always really clean. So yay for Target! :-)

It’s Too Early!

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Oh my goodness, I think we are going to get snow tonight.

Snow!!!

I doubt it will stick, but still… it seems so strange. Right now it’s still just cold and rainy. At least it’s cozy here in front of the wood stove. Drew took today off and he’s playing the piano. I have to admit — not a bad way to spend the afternoon :-)

Spy Gear

Posted under Blather 1 Comment

Last Christmas, Jake got a little “super hearing” type thing for Christmas. That set him up for super-spy adventures like you can’t believe. A couple weeks ago, we were at my parents’ house and Jake decided to make a list of all the gear he would need when he sets out into the world as a super spy. His list included basics like a tent and sleeping bag. He also needs a compass. But there were some more advanced pieces of technology too, such as night-vision goggles and a spy camera.

He also made pictures for each item and then crossed out the ones he already has in his posession. Now, I am not sure where or how he thinks he’ll obtain some of the other stuff. I don’t know about you, but my Target does not carry night-vision goggles. But somehow he seems determined that he’ll find a way to get everything.

Can’t wait to see how he’s gonna do this, LOL!

Feeling the Ick

Posted under Health No Comments

I’ve been feeling queasy pretty much all day and very little sounds good to me when it comes to food. I have managed to eat a decent breakfast and lunch, but soon enough the “ick” builds up again. Not too long ago I was talking to Drew about what to do for supper. Honestly, all I feel like is a bowl of Cheerios with bananas. The thought of cooking makes me ill.

I’ve been trying to make sure I take my vitamins, but this time of year fresh fruits and veggies seem to get rather… lackluster. So maybe it’s not a coincidence that I don’t feel like eating them. There are supplemental products like Orovo that contain antioxidents and other various compounds that are supposed to be good for you. I wonder if that makes a difference? Maybe as some kind of “winter therapy?”

All I know is, I’ll be happy to just feel “myself” again.
