Poor Baby
I have a feeling that N. is going be plagued by acne when he is a teenager. He is just going to be three and the heat and humidity from the summer weather has caused him to break out in tiny little pimples. I’ve been looking at baby acne treatments and I’m keeping it simple: trying to keep his face clean, and applying a mild moisturizer (like Eucerin). It is helping, thankfully. I just hope he is able to escape his teen years without a lot zits
Who wants that?

Run, Carol, Run!
OK, maybe not quite run, but I did go for the first of what I hope will be a (close to) daily 1.5 mile walk. Right before I got Lyme Disease I decided that I really wanted to start going to morning walks (perhaps even doing something crazy like Couch to 5K, though I don’t know if I’d go that far — we’ll start slow). Of course, then I got sick and could barely do much of anything, let alone walk the hilly, gravelly roads near my house. Last week, just as I was really starting to feel 100% again, I ended up falling down four or five of our basement stairs and royally hurt my right foot. So, the start to my routine was delayed yet again.
But this morning it was beautiful out and I laced up my shoes and headed out. It was both invigorating and relaxing. I did a combination of walking and jogging to keep my heart rate up. Ideally I’d like to head out a bit earlier. By 7:30 there were quite a few cars out and my road has several blind turns, which made me a bit nervous. I’ll also see about an alternate route. For the most part it wasn’t a big deal (except, of course for the Dodge Ram pickup that came barrelling up the hill way faster than he should have been going). At any rate, I’m hoping to keep it up. I find the treadmill terribly boring and the recumbant bike is great, but I like the time by myself outside, too. It was a good way to start the day!

My achy breaky neck
I seriously think I need to get a new pillow. I’ve been waking up with an achy neck several times a week and it is so uncomfortable! Pillows are something I hate buying for some reason. They just seem so expensive! Though, I guess they are still cheaper than massage therapy schools. Maybe I can convince my husband to give me a neckrub later on ![]()

Pavement!
Oh my goodness, I am so excited! I guess this shows my age, huh? Tomorrow our driveway is being paved. I am so thrilled that we will not have to go through another winter, laboring over snow removal. Poor Drew is outside right now in this awful heat trying to finish up the stone wall he is redoing… at least the bottom has to be done before the paving company gets here and starts work. Once that is done I am looking forward to focussing on some landscaping — shrubs, maybe a planting mound, outdoor lighting… I hope to have the nicest looking house on the street! ![]()

Viva Las Vegas
The rest of the summer is so busy! The following two weekends we have short overnight stays planned, and then the boys have their birthdays, and before long school will be starting again! It would be so fun if we could get away again. I know we were just in the Adirondacks, but vacations with the kids are a lot of work. Maybe I’ll check out Las Vegas vacations and see if there is anything cheap for me & D. It would be fun, I think! Neither of us are big gamblers, but heck — it’s one of those things that I think everyone wants to see. One of my friends was supposed to be going there this summer, as a matter of fact! Maybe someday.

Yikes!
So after indulging quite a bit on vacation, I seriously need to think about how to lose weight. The numbers on the scale have crept up again, and while I still am maintaining a reasonable weight, I could affort to shed 10 lbs. and tone up a bit. I need to focus on eating more veggies and lean protein. I’ve been way overdoing the carbs lately. I also bought a new pair of running shoes and I am planning on starting out by going for morning walks, and hoping to work my way up to a running schedule. I used to do it and really enjoyed it. It’s so important to set a good example for my kids, you know?

The Boating Life
If only! But when we were in Lake George we did finally get to do something I’ve wanted to for quite a few years — go on one of the cruises around the lake. We took a boat ride on the Minne-ha-ha, which was a lot of fun. In previous years, I knew the boys would not behave on the boat and I didn’t want to be chasing them all over, but now they are of the ages where you can do this kind of stuff. The cruise was relaxing (we went on the first one at 10 AM - I’d recommend that one because it wasn’t too crowded) and it was interesting learning more about Lake George’s history, as well as seeing some absolutely gorgeous homes! If you have the chance, don’t miss this!

Makes you wonder…
When I watch TV programs, I’m always interested in analyzing the commercials that are broadcast within the show. Supposedly it’s supposed to tell you something about the demographic watching the program. But it always disturbs me a little to see how many commercials there are for lawyers seeking out people with mesothelioma in order to get class-action lawsuits going. Not that I don’t think these people deserve compensation, but… I don’t know. The lawyer TV ads skeeve me out. I just don’t think I could ever trust someone who is wooing clients on Comedy Central, you know? Strikes me as a bit unprofessional and odd.

Lost Jewelry
I’m so bummed. When I was packing for Lake George I wanted to take a set of nice jewelry just in case we went to a nicer restaurant and I wanted to dress up a bit. I thought I would take the set of jewelry that my sister in law gave all of us girls as bridesmaid gifts but somehow I seem to have lost one of the earrings
At least I still have the necklace. It’s simple and pretty — a sparkly pink gem (not sure what kind). It can be dressed up or down and I do enjoy it. I just wish I had both of those earrings that matched! Oh well. Now I need to figure out something to do with the lone earring I have left. Any ideas?

One Last Husband Brag
OK, just one more and then I’ll stop
About a month ago we had a stretch of really hot, humid weather. It was terrible! It would have been the ideal time to turn on our A/C, so naturally we tried. Only, it wasn’t working. Drew checked the fuse box, he checked the filter, he checked a bunch of things. We couldn’t figure out what was the problem. Was it out of freon? Was there an issue with the A/C compressor? We were about to call someone to come and take a look at it when he thought about it again and thought about what he’d done when he replaced our thermostats with programmable thermostats. He noted that the A/C unit itself was running, but nothing was blowing from the ducts.
Turns out he had not hooked up the “fan” wire! That was it! I was so happy — we save a lot of money
And we have our central air back!
