Pimples

Posted under Uncategorized 1 Comment

Ugh, I’ve been having flashbacks to my teenage years lately. My face is breaking out like crazy! My skin and hair tend to go haywire at the change of seasons; I have no idea why, though. I never had awful acne as a young woman, but a good friend had it pretty bad. She had to go to a dermatoligist who was able to recommend the best acne treatment for her own needs. Luckily, I’m not quite that bad. I just feel silly being 32 and breaking out in pimples!

New Entertainment Center!

Posted under Homemaking No Comments

So today my husband picked up a new entertainment center for the den. I am super excited because since we put the den together in the fall, we’ve been using a crappy little TV cart and I hated the way it looked. It’s not like we have a hi-def TV or a Bose home theater set up or anything, just a regular old TV. But it’s nice to have the room look a little less “dorm room chic” you know? The new one has several shelves on the side and I’m looking forward to decorating :-)

As part of Earth Month 2008, Wal-Mart will be giving away a million custom-made reusable shopping bags on Saturday, April 19 at 8AM Local Time. Wal-Mart’s reusable shopping bags are made from recycled materials and will be sold for just $1 after the promotion. It’s about time Wal-Mart got on board with this!

Real Estate

Posted under Uncategorized 1 Comment

Even though we’re no longer selling our home, I am still following the real estate industry with great interest. I just saw on CNN this morning that in February sales were actually up slightly, but prices were at an all-time low. So depressing! I wonder how things are in other areas of the countr. I mean, in Missouri for example, is the Branson real estate market doing better than say here in upstate New York? I’m always interested in specifics, not just generalities and I should dig a little deeper and find out what areas of the country are doing better. All I know for sure is that here in the Northeast it’s very grim.

Argh!

Posted under Homemaking No Comments

Ugh, I am having such problems with the lights in our house lately. Nothing serious, just small annoyances. First, Noah has started unscrewing all the knobs from our table lamps. I have no idea when he does it — I’ve not yet caught him in the act. Luckily I find them on the rug next to the lamp. And also, I keep forgetting to buy light bulbs for our light fixtures. We’re down to two 100-Watt bulbs. I really need to pick some up. I figure this is a good opportunity to make the switch to the new energy-efficient ones. If I have to buy some anyway, I might as well do the right thing and not buy the incandescants!

Microwave popcorn

Posted under Cooking No Comments

I’ve been reading a lot about how bad microwave popcorn is for you. I guess it’s not surprising — it does have a slightly funny taste. I don’t eat much of it, but it is a favorite snack of both of the boys and Drew. I’ve been contemplating getting one of those old-fashioned popcorn machines — you know, the air popping ones like we all had as kids? But then I read about just popping it on your stovetop. Really, all you need to do is to coat the bottom of a pan with oil and then add your popcorn kernals. How easy is that? I think I might buy some next time I am at the store and give it a try!

A Peep-less Easter

Posted under Uncategorized 3 Comments

I can’t believe that Easter is this weekend and I haven’t had one Peep yet! For that matter I haven’t had *any* Easter candy, though there are bags in my closet so I can make up some baskets. My favorite Easter candy is Cadbury mini-eggs. Oh, they are so good. I swear, just one is all it takes and I can easily go through bags and bags of them. One might say I need addiction treatment for candy, LOL…

Redecorating Bug

Posted under Decorating, Homemaking No Comments

I am hoping that this weekend we can rearrange some furniture in our living room. Currently we have the glider rocker in there, but it’s not quite right thanks to the boys’ jumping on it. Sigh… So my plan is to move one of our big armchairs back down. (We’d put one upstairs a few months ago). Now, I love these chairs — they are big and comfy. However, the upholstery is a mess from spills and stains. I don’t really want to replace them, so I was thinking about getting them reupholstered. Seems to be a pretty economical way to update my furniture (plus I’m not throwing anything away — just reusing what I have). I was surfing around looking at various fabrics and these Duralee fabrics are kind of nice. Something for me to keep in mind, at least, as I’m trying to decide what to do!

Spring Cleaning

Posted under Homemaking No Comments

Even though it’s not quite warm enough to open windows and air out the house, I’ve started my spring cleaning. The other day I did the dining room and it looks sooo much better. It feels better too, you know? Then, yesterday I started the boys’ room. I began going through their drawers and making up piles for donations (and some of Jake’s to save for Noah, as well). We have finally moved all of the baby furniture into the basement, so none of that is cluttering up the room anymore. In fact, I’m starting to think we can even take the rail off of Noah’s bed soon. I don’t think he really needs it anymore. Amazing how much stuff accumulates, though, isn’t it?

Tasteless, but Funny

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

OK, if you are easily offended, this story isn’t for you, but if you have a dark sense of humor, you might find this story about mesothelioma being cured kind of funny. Not that I think the disease is funny — because it isn’t. But I do think that its kind of nuts how many lawyers there are out there stirring up lawsuits. At any rate, the story is sarcastic, but I thought it was amusing!
