Snoozy
When my brother and sister-in-law visited us last weekend, my brother complained about our mattress. I had no idea how he could find it uncomfortable, but then I remembered that he is used to a foam mattress and ours is a very firm mattress (better for our backs). He has a pillowtop too or something crazy — I don’t know. Whenever I sleep on a soft mattress I wake up sore all over. That night we slept on the AeroBed and my neck and shoulders ached something horrible the next day! I was so glad to get my bed back after they left, LOL.

Longing for escape…
The past couple days, my two year old has been a crazy maniac: jumping off the couch, standing on tables, being bossy and nasty… It’s a little much and right about now I could so use a little Mommy vacation. It would be great to just be able to jump on a plane and book a Las Vegas hotel room and have a wild weekend out with the girls. Naturally, that won’t be happening. But it would be fun. At least we’re going on vacation a week from tomorrow. I’m a little concerned about how early N. has been waking up. Hopefully our activities during the day and the later dinners will tire him out and he will sleep until at least 6. Let’s hope!

Bad News
Yesterday while I was making dinner the phone rang — it was my mom. Apparently my grandmother is in the hospital and it sounds like there is a blood clot in her brain. She’s “aware” but from the sounds of it, not too coherant. I’m not sure if they were going to operate today — I haven’t heard an update yet. When something like this happens it does kind of slap you in the face in terms of a “reality check” you know? There are so many things people put of — having a will drawn up, securing long term care insurance, and basically just having a plan to make things easy on your family. We’ll see what happens.

“Dressing Up” the Yard
Yesterday when I was waiting for Jake’s bus I was looking at the house and thinking about some landscaping ideas. We have a pretty big front yard. I was wondering if maybe some outdoor lighting would be a nice addition — maybe some more solar lights in front or a small lampost. I don’t know, just throwing around some ideas in my head. But I think it could use something.

Cables, Cables
Sometimes I wish I knew more about computer networking. I have a few friends who do and I hear them use terms like “Cat5e” and I have no idea what they’re talking about. I mean, I know they’re talking about some kind of cable, but after that? No clue… Everything is so specializes these days, isn’t it? I guess it’s impossible to be an expert in all areas anymore!

Yay! No More Ugly Desk!
Ah, we are finally getting rid of the crappy old computer desk in the basement. It’s about nine years old and has been through two moves and is seriously worse for the wear. I think we’re going to temporarily use an old table as a desk in the meantime. I love the look of modern office furniture and would love to have a really nice office set-up, but with our crazy boys I am afraid to have anything too nice at the moment. I think we’ll need to wait a few years before investing in any kind of high-quality furniture. I’d hate to spend the money only to see it ruined. Nevertheless, I will be gladd to see that old desk go.

Decluttering
One of the best ways to declutter is to give away your extra stuff. Sure, donations are great, but I also love passing things on to family and friends. We might not want or need the stuff anymore, but someone else might! Case in point: I haven’t scrapbooked in way over a year, however, my sister-in-law has taken up the hobby so I gave her a lot of my supplies. She was thrilled because she quickily stocked up her craft supplies at no cost, and I was thrilled because the stuff was no longer taking up room in my basement and I know she’ll use and appreciate the supplies (which weren’t cheap).
Well, as it turns out, my husband’s aunt is in need of a computer. She still works part-time (she’s in her 70s), but needs to be able to check e-mail from home. As you might guess, she’s not all that tech-savvy, so naturally we wanted to help her out. And as luck would have it, we do have an extra computer that doesn’t get much use. So Drew is going to clean it up, reformat it, and maybe get some more Dell Memory and she’ll have a basic, but useful setup. She was very happy about that!

P-U!
Wow, am I glad I thought to open up the Ziplock bag containing Jake’s Angel Gabriel costume for the Nativity play tomorrow. (It was supposed to be before Christmas, but we had a terrible snowstorm, so it was rescheduled). I knew it would need to be ironed, but I had no idea how stinky it would be! Plus, there were a couple stains on it. Yuck! So I’m running it through a small load with some towels now. Why would someone return it like that? You can rest assured I’ll be returning it clean. Oh well. Better now that 7 AM tomorrow!

One of the problems with winter
I have dry skin no matter what time of year it is, but the cold weather makes it so much worse. The last few days, with temperatures barely getting out of the teens, have been especially hard on my hands. I’ve barely been wearing my wedding rings because they fall off so easily, and God knows I don’t want to lose them! I’ve been using the Gold Bond medicated lotion and that seems to be helping. My only complaint is that the lotion seems to have this “cooling” effect (think menthol) which isn’t that pleasant, but at least my hands aren’t cracking.
