The wonders of technology

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Jake is super interested in science these days. Since he’s just in kindergarten it’s more like wanting to know how they make things like trumpets and action figures and how DVDs work, rather than more complicated things like how plasma cutters cut metal or how chemicals react and make things like shampoo. Still, it’s so awesome to see his eyes light up when we watch shows that explain things in pretty basic terms. It’s very cool to see him get so excited about learning. I hope that is something that he doesn’t lose, and even when he’s 10, 15, 20, and so on he never stops being curious.

So funny

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Yesterday we had to go to the mall for eye doctor appointments (Sears is so convenient!), and we saw the funniest thing — this truck had a red “nose” attatched to its billet grille, and then somehow antlers were attatched by the front windows. Jake got a HUGE kick out of the “Rudolph truck.” I love when peoples’ senses of humor shine through even when they are not around. It put a smile on all of our faces for the rest of the evening.

Itching for Spring

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Is it bad that I’m already looking forward to spring? I know, I know. Winter has barely gotten underway. I just miss the nice weather and all the fun stuff to do. I’m looking forward to going to more flea markets next spring and summer because I will hopefully have a little more time on my hands. There are always so many cool things. Personally, I always go for the vintage stuff — dishes, books, tablecloths, etc. But there are some vendors who must buy wholesale fashion jewelry and then resell it at flea markets because there are always booths with cheap necklaces and stuff. I have gotten a few good deals in the past. How many months, now, LOL?

Just a reminder…

Posted under Organization No Comments

Don’t forget to use up the money in your flexible spending accounts! I have about $100 that I need to spend in the next few days, so I guess I will be hitting CVS. Next year I really need to be better about saving reciepts. For some reason my husband only has one co-pay receipt and there should be at least three. Argh. I’m thinking of setting up a station in the kitchen with file folders — one for flexible spending receipts, one for my CVS extra care bucks, one for coupons, one for bills that need to be paid, etc. I’m so sick of everything getting lost!

You know, that locksmith…

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

When I think about it, I get really irritated at the locksmith I called when I had the problem with the Jeep ignition. The mechanic who came was able to fix it, no problem, without any special tools or anything. It’s not like the locksmith needed a whole lot of body shop supplies. The guy who fixed it just ordered the assembly from Chrysler, it came the next day, and then he popped it back in. This BS about how locksmiths don’t do auto locks anymore is ridiculous. I feel like writing a letter and complaining, but really — what good would it do? I’m just relieved that it’s all fixed and the mechanic who came was more than happy to help us out.

Santa, baby…

Posted under Uncategorized 1 Comment

So I thought about getting some kind of sexy, Christmas-y lingerie “for Drew” (though obviously for me) for Christmas. Although I love the look of corsets, I find them uncomfortable, so I was looking for nighties. Never did find anything, though. I’m sure he would have gotten a kick out of it ;-) Maybe next year I’ll think about shopping a little earlier and find something sassy!

Planning ahead

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Next year I am hoping to really get my organization on. This year had been kind of nutty and I’ve started getting things under control, but there are still a lot of things that were neglected. There are the things like my annual exam (bad, I know), the dentist, a physical… (Seeing a trend here? Yeah, I don’t like going to the doctor’s.) We also should look into life insurance at some point. I know there are different kinds like term life insurance, mortgage life insurance, and others. Time to spend time researching all of it, I think.

Glad I finished early

Posted under Uncategorized 1 Comment

Boy am I glad I finished the bulk of my Christmas shopping early. I had a couple gift cards I had to pick up the other day and that was quite enough for me. Retail is rough this time of year. I feel for the managment behind those two-way mirrors keeping their eyes on customers. When the stores are so crowded I am sure the shoplifting rates are higher. I wonder if fake security cameras deter crime just as well as real ones? I’d think that in a small store they’d be adequate. Although I’m sure stores are enjoying the sales at this time of the year, I’m sure employees will be glad once things slow down again!

Vegas, baby!

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Every now and then I just feel this urge to sneak away for the weekend. Do you ever get that? It would be awesome to just book a flight, make some Las Vegas hotel reservations, and head out West for a long weekend of shows, food, and slot machines. I think once would probably be enough, but maybe someday I’ll pull off a girls’ weekend! Could be fun.

Almost a Month!

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

I can’t believe that as of tomorrow my brother will have been married for a month. In one way it seems to have gone by so fast, but in another way, it’s like — Only a month??? We had such a good time at the wedding, and I loved how long my bouquet lasted after the fact. It stayed for a good week in the vase. Their wedding flowers were very similar to the ones Drew and I had at our wedding — same basic color scheme — so I loved having them in my kitchen. I always feel guilty splurging on fresh flowers, but maybe I should do it more often. It does seem to be a relatively inexpensive pick-me-up!
