beautiful bows
I’ve been inspired by the adorable hair bows I’ve seen in photos online and I have finally learned to make them myself. Honestly, they’re pretty easy to do! It just takes a little patience. I’m working on making a nice variety for my Etsy shop. I don’t expect to make big bucks or anything, but it would be nice to make a little bit on the side. I ordered a bunch of supplies from VistaPrint and they came out really well. Maybe next time I’ll think about promotional pens. If I do any craft fairs it would be nice to have some as swag. But I’m not there yet, LOL! I have yet to upload my initial stock, but hopefully some people will like my work enough to buy it ![]()

She’s Crafty
I was doing a search on this blog the other day to see what came up and I noticed that a few web site directories still have this categorized as a craft store. A few years ago I sold custom scrapbooks, cards, and diaper cakes as a hobby. Clearly you won’t be finding any of that here now. But I am considering opening up an Etsy storefront for some of my other homemade goods. I want to build up a bit of inventory first and then we’ll see. I don’t expect much from it, but it would be a good way to get rid of my extra knitting projects, LOL!

Sew what?
I’m torn. I’ve been thinking about buying a sewing machine for quite some time now. With our federal tax refund Drew bought a lot of new equipment for his home studio, and today our state refund came through and he told me that I should research sewing machines and buy myself one. On the one hand, I am of course thrilled! On the other hand… is it really something I need? I’m such a cheapskate sometimes (OK, most of the time), and I’m always second-guessing my purchases. I shop around for everything, from groceries to auto insurance quotes. Still, it’s so tempting… Maybe if I can find a good deal on a quality machine I’ll go for it. (It would be nice to make more gifts, and that’s certainly frugal don’t you think?)

Snowman Sundaes
What do you on a cold, blustery snow day in New York? Why, you make snowman sundaes of course! (I guess unless you’re taking something like Fenphedra - the sundaes would kind of defeat the purpose of the pill, don’t you think?) The idea was actually inspired by a sundae currently offered by Friendly’s. I was charmed by the adorable, delicious-looking snowman on the table tent. However, when I saw someone order one, well… the product was nowhere near as charming. So I thought I could do a better job at home and it would be a fun craft for the boys, as well. I think they did a great job! Check out their creations:

Ravelry
Wahoo! I got my Ravelry invitation today and I am so excited to log in and explore. I’ve heard nothing but awesome things about the site. For the uninitiated, Ravelry is an online organizer/community for knitters. You can catalog your stash, post your projects, and view other projects and note the ones you would like to knit. Plus there is the whole community aspect too. It’s great! I’m “CarolB” over there so feel free to add me as a friend!

Happy Fourth of July!
Happy July 4th! Is anyone doing anything exciting today? Fireworks, barbeques, etc? The weather here isn’t so great today so we’ll be grilling burgers and dogs and saving the fireworks for another day. Too bad because the boys were really excited about it. If you are stuck inside as well, check out all the craft ideas that you can do with your kids! There are some great ones here.

Summer Crafts
What are some of your favorite summer crafts to do with kids? Jake is really into leaf rubbings and they’re so simple to do. We went out in our yard on a “nature walk” and picked a variety of leaves: ferns, maple leaves, some grass, and we even took a piece of tree bark. Then we came inside and arranged the bark and leaves on the table, covered them gently with a piece of paper, and I secured the paper while Jake rubbed over the whole thing with a crayon. Magically the outlines began to appear! This was a cheap craft to do and it was a fun way to learn about different plants.
