Just to show you that I do practice what I preach, here is this week’s CVS haul. I only purchased the monthly deals (well, except the gum… that might be a weekly deal but I am a gum addict and had to have it). I got all this stuff for just $6.90 out of pocket ! I used $21 worth of ECBs and had $8 worth of manufacturer’s coupons, and got back $34.91 in ECBs. Not too shabby!

Money Saving Mom

Posted under Around the Web, Save your pennies No Comments

Just like most people, I try to scrimp and save however I can. I am lucky that I get paid to blog for a couple different sites and that helps contribute to our monthly income more than I could have imagined a year ago. I just happened to come across this blog called Money Saving Mom and wow — awesome tips on saving money. Crystal is like a money-saving genius. I kid you not. I love how she breaks down weekly flyers and shows you how to get the most out of them. I’m going to start using her tips for shopping at CVS — a place I never think of going to unless I need cough medicine! Anyway, I just wanted to pass that site along. Be sure to check it out!

Summer Crafts

Posted under Crafts, Save your pennies No Comments

What are some of your favorite summer crafts to do with kids? Jake is really into leaf rubbings and they’re so simple to do. We went out in our yard on a “nature walk” and picked a variety of leaves: ferns, maple leaves, some grass, and we even took a piece of tree bark. Then we came inside and arranged the bark and leaves on the table, covered them gently with a piece of paper, and I secured the paper while Jake rubbed over the whole thing with a crayon. Magically the outlines began to appear! This was a cheap craft to do and it was a fun way to learn about different plants.

If it’s free, it’s for me!

Did you know that you can get great free samples from Wal-Mart online? There is an entire section with a variety of free stuff that changes often. I’ve gotten a few samples from them and very often they’re not trial-size — they are full-sized! Worth checking out.
