Crazy!
Here’s something you don’t hear about every day: a street in a town seceding! Yup, a street in Tom’s River, NJ is trying to secede and join the next town over, Lavallette. Apparently, last winter the street was piled high with snow for three days before the Tom’s River came to snowplow. Also, apparently trash pick up is hit or miss. I don’t know how much of NJ trash removal is private or town, but regardless… who wants their garbage cans in front of the house for days (or possibly weeks)? It’s not final yet; Tom’s River can appeal. I’m sure they aren’t happy about the loss of tax revenue, but maybe they should take better care of their residents!

Healthier Kids’ Meals Coming to BK
A lot of people come down hard on fast food places and rightful so. But have you ever stopped to look at the nutritional information for places like Uno’s or Ruby Tuesday’s? Not much better. Today I read that Burger King is promising healthier kids’ meals — a decision I applaud. As a busy mom, I hate to say it but sometimes grabbing a quick fast food lunch makes things easier for days when I am on the go. The applesauce is OK, but not very portable. The apple dippers at McDonald’s make for much easier to-go eating. In an attempt to one-up the apple dippers, BK is going to be rolling out apple “fries” — I love this idea.
From CNN:
The fast-food chain is also developing what it calls BK Fresh Apple Fries. The red apples are cut to resemble french fries and are served in the same containers as fries, but they are not fried and are served skinless and cold. . .
The 2.4-ounce serving of Apple Fries will have 35 calories, the company said. . .
Burger King will use U.S. grown apples that are cut and packaged in a sterile environment and subjected to a pre-wash that contains lemon to keep them from turning brown, said Burger King spokesman Keva Silversmith.
