etsy

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

I’m hoping to start making some time for myself to do some crafting for my Etsy shop. I have a hundred ideas for items and dozens for packaging. I just need the time to make it happen. It would be really cool to have an epson receipt printer. I think anything that makes you and your product stand out as a professional makes a huge difference. I also want to make sure my photos are top-notch. Photography often sells the product. Speaking only for myself, when a shot is blurry or unclear or dark, I’m less likely to make that purchase. Sloppy editing turns me off, too. I know I’m picky, but if you’re going to take the time to do something, why not just do it right in the first place?

itchy scratchy

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Ugh! My feet got totally eaten up by chiggers the other night. The bites are so yucky. They look like tiny pimples at first, but then with all the itching they’ve resolved into unsightly welts. I’ve tried various remedies to alleviate the itching, but maybe I should read some pronexin reviews due to the fact that they look so much like zits to begin with. Think that’d help? Nah, neither do I. I’m afraid I just have to suffer through. They seem to spread a little, which is unnerving. I am going to give it the weekend, but if by Monday they’re still causing me grief, I’m calling the doctor. (So you know it’s bad if I resort to that! I never go to the doctor!). Hopefully they’ll just start going away. I seriously need to remember the bug spray next time I’m outside.

a virtual mess

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

I have so many files on my laptop and I’ve been trying to get them organized in a way that is a little more streamlined. I wonder if I should look into document management software? Seems like that might be targeted more towards businesses, but I imagine there are personal applications as well. I just hate when I’m trying to find something and I have to weed through dozens and dozens of files to locate it. There has got to be an easier way!

1st birthday

Posted under Uncategorized 1 Comment

Even though I don’t have everything planned out for Jake’s 1st Communion in May, I can’t help but start thinking about Laura’s first birthday in June. Her birthday is the day after our wedding anniversary. Nine years ago I was trying to find the perfect last-minute wedding accessories for my outfit, but now I’m deciding on what would be the most perfect petite cake for my little pixie. The current issue of Ladies’ Home Journal has some lovely spring cakes and I’ve been inspired looking at them. Cupcakes are a pain and no one ever wants to eat through a whole cake, so I might go with one of these ideas. It’ll just be immediate family, anyway, because I like to make things easy for myself :-)

Ch-ch-ch Chia!

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Last fall I read about chia seeds and ordered some. If you don’t know, they are nutritional supplements, basically. They’re seeds that are packed with fiber and protein. At first I didn’t believe the claims that they could increase your energy level, but I really noticed a difference when I was eating them. I think it’s time to buy some more. Of course, I have to order them online and I keep forgetting about it. The local natural foods store has them, but not the brand I like. Maybe if I start taking them again I’ll feel more alert even though I’m not getting enough sleep.

Manly Men

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

Living out here in the country, there are plenty of guys who think they’re real cowboys. They drive pick-up trucks with NRA stickers on the back, some of them still wear mullets, and they think they’re great. I wouldn’t doubt if some of them would take a testosterone booster if they thought it would increase their masculinity! I tend to ignore them, except when I’m driving and they get right up on my bumper. I drive the speed limit. And I usually have at least one child in the car with me. I’m not about to risk an accident by speeding along the twisty roads just so these jerks can feel good. Sigh. One of these days I’ll see a cop pull one of them over, though, and that will make my day!

Surprise Visit

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

What a surprise last week when Drew’s dad called to say he was going to be in NYC this week! He wanted to find out what day would be best to come up for a visit. His wife (Drew’s stepmom) does a lot of work in New Jersey, even though they live in Miami. We’ve gone on Florida vacations before to visit them, but with a six-month-old, travelling would not be easy. So it’s great that we get to see him like this. And even better is that Jake has a half-day of school on Thursday so he’ll be able to visit with him for a while before he needs to leave. I always enjoy having guests at our home, so I’m looking forward to his visit!

Inferiority Complex

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

So a person that Drew went to college with has had a book made into a movie this summer. Naturally as a writer I guess I’m a bit jealous. I’m sure if I buckled down I could write a book too, but the time… Where to find the time? I get paid to write and shouldn’t that be enough? When I worked for the magazine I opined about call center outsourcing, unified messaging, and VoIP (before it was hip). And even now I write stories for the local paper and churn out web content and I get paid for that. Shouldn’t that be enough? I guess I just feel like I should be doing something more… creative? Worthwhile? I don’t know. I need to do a little soul-searching, I think, and figure out what I want to do and how I can actually do it.

Birthday weekend is over

Posted under Uncategorized No Comments

This weekend we celebrated the boys’ birthdays (Jake is 7 and Noah is 4) as well as Laura’s baptism. Needless to say there has been a lot of cake and ice cream! I wish there was a safe, all-natural diet pill that works to help me cut my cravings for sweets, but I think that next month I’m just going to have to buckle down and get on track with eating and exercise. I got a copy of Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred so I am hoping that working out will help a lot. My diet actually isn’ that bad, but I do need to get moving to lose these last few pounds.
